I’ve been doing guitar set-ups since 1988.  I started out of necessity, always looking for any advantage I could gain from a better set up guitar (Truss Rod, Action and Intonation).  While living in Los Angeles I had the privilage of working with Andy Brauer and soon afterwards started doing guitar repair and setups for students at Musicians Institute – GIT.  I was also intrigued with the variations in sound I was able to get out of a guitar from changing the pickups and tweaking the internal electronics.  This also led to another path in my life of pursuing a degree in electronics engineering in the mid 90′s.

We are super experienced in every aspect of Guitar Repair.  Our specialty is what I like to call “The Playing Field”:  re-fret’s, fret level’s, re-radiusing of fretboard and or frets, truss rod adjustments, micro intonation, custom nut design from scratch, Tremolo/Floyd Rose setups and custom electronics!  All of this equals a guitar that is effortless to play and sounds amazing!   Our custom setups yield action of 1/64″ at top fret with perfectely straight neck and NO buzzing anywhere when using a light attack!   Although this is considered the extreme side of micro-action and is too low even for a player like Alan Holdsworth, we do this to make a point…   Our setups are flawless.

Here are some of the many custom performance packages that we offer to take your stock guitar to an ultra high performance playing level!   Why fight with your guitar when you can have an effortless playing instrument!  This brings you closer to the ultimate in musical expression!

A couple of myths to put to rest:

1) Putting Humbucking Pickups in a Stratocaster will make it sound like a Les Paul…  NO…  The main issue here is the scale length of a Stratocaster Design (25-1/2″) as compared to a Les Paul Design (24-3/4″) .  These two different designs cause the strings to vibrate differently.  These two different designs cause the strings to vibrate differently no matter what pickups are in them.   Putting Humbucking pickups in a Stratocaster Design will sound like a humbucker in a Stratocaster.

2) Coil splitting the pickups in your Les Paul will make it sound like a Stratocaster… NO. The same as above..  The issue is the scale length of a Stratocaster Design (25-1/2″) as compared to a Les Paul Design (24-3/4″).  These two different designs cause the strings to vibrate differently no matter what pickups are in them.  Coil splitting a humbucking pickup will sound like a single coil in a Les Paul.

The foundation of a guitar’s tone all comes down to scale length.

3) Coil splitting Humbuckers in a Stratocaster wil give you single coil sound …  NO…    This is a tricky one..   a few Companies (Rio Grande, DiMarzio) are starting to get better at this but the foundation of a humbucking pickup is much different than a single coil.
